Yuanyang Terraces

As the steps of the earth, the terraces lay on the hillsides, carrying a thousand years of agricultural civilization. The forests and wetlands around the terraces also provide appropriate habitats for the varieties of wild animals and plants, thus displaying a unique landscape of biodiversity. The blending of environments and organisms not only enrich the local agro-ecosystem, but also provide natural ecological shields for agricultural production. With the efforts of Yunnan people, success of biodiversity has been replicated in other places. Yunnan, “the Kingdom of Animals and Plants”, is home to the trove of biodiversity at different aspects. The various climates and environments found here have given rise to a unique mix of flora and fauna, from wide plaints to arduous gorges, from hot dry karst landform to shivery plateau, some of which are found nowhere else in the world. The diversity of biology, ecology and habitats combine together and shape the notion of biodiversity, and thus create a complex and dynamic system that supports both human life and the natural world. We hope to witness such biodiversity can be recurred all over the world, not only just in Yunnan. Biodiversity is a common issue for all the human on earth, and we need to try our best to preserve it, and create a better, and more vigorous future for mankind.
