Change to the Editor-in-Chief of Studies in Fungi

Professor Peter Mortimer has handed over the reins to Professor Kevin Hyde, who assumes the position of Editor-in-Chief for Studies in Fungi. Professor Hyde has a wealth of experience not only as a mycologist, but also as a senior editor of academic journals, and as such, will no doubt continue this journal's upwards trajectory.

The new year brings changes to Studies in Fungi, it is time for me to step back from my role as Editor-in-Chief and hand over the reins to Professor Kevin Hyde. Studies in Fungi was founded by Professor Hyde at the start of 2016, so it is fitting that as I transition out, Professor Hyde reassumes leadership. My leaving is made easy in knowing that such an accomplished scientist is taking over, and I have full confidence that Studies in Fungi can only go from strength to strength. Last year Studies in Fungi received its Scopus rating and published over 20 manuscripts, and I look forward to seeing how the journal will continue its growth under the leadership of Professor Hyde.

Professor Hyde needs little in the way of introduction, he has long been a leading mycologist with global recognition and, in addition to Studies in Fungi, has successful launched a number of top mycology journals, including, but not limited to, Fungal Diversity, Mycosphere, and the Asian Journal of Mycology. He has pioneered mycology research in Asia, training hundreds of students and documenting thousands of new fungal species across the region. The depth of experience, knowledge, and leadership that Professor Hyde brings to the Studies in Fungi team will ensure the future success of this journal.

Mycology is a multidisciplinary field of study, with topics ranging from phylogenetics and systematics to ecology, pathology, and bioinformatics, as well as feeding into a number of applied sciences. As such, Studies in Fungi provides a platform to publish and share the latest research and findings relating to these topics, to the broader scientific community, while ensuring a rigorous peer review process. And in this context, I hope to see Studies in Fungi continue its valuable contribution to the field of mycology in the years ahead.
