Biology of Fruit Tree Rootstocks

Scope

Fruit tree rootstocks' developmental biology involves a series of dynamic and interesting biological events. A comprehensive understanding of fruit tree rootstock developmental biology has become a more significant factor in determining orchard productivity and fruit crop longevity. Integrating the beneficial characteristics of two or three distinct individuals through budding or grafting can have profound implications for growth and yield. In numerous fruit crops, the effect of rootstocks on fruit quality in terms of physical attributes and internal chemical characteristics is well recognized. Rootstocks can regulate precocity or juvenility, yield, fruit respiration, control tree architecture, abiotic or biotic stress resistance or tolerance, crop load, and canopy management approaches.

The world's current agricultural issues require the development of new technologies and farming methods to fulfill the requirement for sustainability and to combat climate change. In modern agriculture, rootstocks are an essential part of fruit crops. Presently, most rootstocks are clonally propagated, and various attempts are underway to strengthen these plant materials.

To advance the research and our understanding of the regulation of fruit tree rootstock developmental biology, which are crucially significant scientific questions that require answers; we have designed the following topics for a new special issue. We cordially invite submissions of full-length articles, short communications, review/mini reviews, and perspectives that are related to these topics. Please note that the topics we provided may not cover all research in this field. If your topic is related to this special issue but not listed here, please contact us.
