It is with great pleasure that we welcome Dr. Shilin Chen as the new Co-Editor-in-Chief of Medicinal Plant Biology.

Dr. Chen, a distinguished researcher from Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in China, specializes in the sustainable utilization of traditional Chinese medicine resources. Notably, he was the pioneer in establishing ecological suitability zoning for the habitats of Chinese medicinal materials using TCMGIS. Additionally, Dr. Chen’s team developed a DNA barcoding system for herbal materials based on the ITS2 sequences, which has been widely adopted in the field of Chinese medicinal materials identification.

Currently holding several prestigious positions, Dr. Chen is the Chief Professor of Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the Lead Researcher of the Chinese Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the Vice Chairman of CGCM (Consortium for the Globalization of Chinese Medicine), the Honorary Professor at Hong Kong Baptist University, and the Visiting Professor at Tokyo University of Pharmacy and Life Sciences. His previous roles include serving as the Director of the WHO Center for Collaboration on Traditional Medicine, a Visiting Scholar in Mclean hospital at Harvard Medical School, and a Visiting Professor at Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He also received professional training in Royal Botanic Garden, United Kingdom. In 2023, Dr. Chen was honored with election as an Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering.

With more than 500 publications to his name, Dr. Chen has contributed extensively to leading academic peer-reviewed journals, such as Nature, Nature Plants, Nature Communications, PNAS. He is an active member of the editorial boards for over ten peer-reviewed journals, including PLOS One, Pharmaceutical Crops, and Chinese Medicines.

His appointment will undoubtedly contribute to the continued growth and development of Medicinal Plant Biology. We look forward to working with Dr. Chen and welcoming him to the journal!
